The Croatian Maritime Museum Split and the Museum of the City of Crikvenica are marking the 60th anniversary of the launch of the first ferry line in the eastern Adriatic, which connected Crikvenica and Šilo on the island of Krk, with the exhibition "First on the Adriatic" and the accompanying bilingual catalog. The exhibition first took place in June 2019 at the Museum of the City of Crikvenica and lasted until the end of September 2020.
The exhibition "First on the Adriatic" is now sailing to Split, where it will set in the Croatian Maritime Museum at the Gripe Fortress. The opening will take place on October 16, 2020, at noon, and the exhibition will be open to visitors until January 30, 2021.
About the exhibition:
During the 1960s, Crikvenica began its tourism development, which was, among other things, connected with its good traffic position and increasingly developed transport network. In addition to the highway construction, the launch of the Crikvenica-Šilo ferry line encouraged further development. The legendary ferry Bodulka, which is remembered by all older people from Crikvenica, as well as the inhabitants of other islands in the Adriatic, maintained the Crikvenica-Šilo line. Bodulka was the first in the Adriatic to "enter" the history not only of Crikvenica but also of Croatian traffic in general. Apart from the ferry line, the exhibition also deals with the development of the port of Crikvenica in general. Also, the exhibition displays steamship lines that were the main links of coastal settlements before the ferries.
Authors of the exhibition:
Ljubomir Radić - senior curator/director of the Croatian Maritime Museum Split,
Tea Rosić - curator of the Museum of the City of Crikvenica
Stjepan Špalj - an external associate of the Museum of the City of Crikvenica.
Adherence to epidemiological measures:
Due to the epidemiological situation, the opening of the exhibition will take place in front of the Museum building, and visitors will be able to see the exhibition, in compliance with all epidemiological measures.
