In the courtyard of Meštrović's Crikvine – Kaštilac, located at Šetalište Ivana Meštrovića 39, on Thursday, September 21st, starting at 12 o'clock, an exhibition commemorating the 140th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Meštrović titled "The Secret Life of Sculpture: Meštrović's Works in Photographs by Zoran Alajbeg" will be opened. The opening program will include the participation of the Director of the Ivan Meštrović Museum, Sandra Grčić Budimir, exhibition curator Sandi Bulimbašić, the author and curator of the exhibition, Zorana Jurić Šabić, and Zoran Alajbeg, the author of the photographs. The musical accompaniment on guitars will be provided by Duo Vermeer (Silvija Escamilla and Petar Zlodre).

 

This exhibition, marking the 140th anniversary of Ivan Meštrović's birth, will bring Meštrović's sculptures to life through the lens of another artist. They will be presented using a printing technique on composite aluminum panels measuring 100 x 150 cm. The exhibition will feature 28 photographs of Meštrović's works by Zoran Alajbeg, taken over the past two decades. Alajbeg, the photographer, captured over 3500 photographs of Meštrović's works commissioned by the Ivan Meštrović Museum for their photographic archive on various occasions. This exhibition will showcase the most exceptional of these photographs, demonstrating how Meštrović has inspired other artists to create new artistic pieces. Furthermore, they offer a fresh perspective on some of the most renowned works.
