ARTIST'S STATEMENT
The series of paintings "Postseason" deals with the gentrification of Split, the consequence of post-conflict privatization crimes after the breakup of Yugoslavia, and the complete reliance on the tertiary sector of the economy - tourism.
Split, 1979. Koteks, Pool center Poljud, and the stadium on Poljud were built, the railway tunnel from Kopilica to the center was broken, and Split 3 quarter was completed. The city is getting built and planned for the citizens.
Split, 2019. Apart from the private accommodation, there is no residential apartment. Around 70,000 new beds in private accommodation have been provided, and the increase in the number of overnight stays is being celebrated while I am writing this concept in my parents' home, saying goodbye to Split.
Until when will the citizens be worth only as extras in the "Mediterranean as it once was"? Will tourism move in a sustainable direction? What will be written in concrete? In the census? And will my name be on it?
