EXHIBITION: THE AMERICAN DREAM IN SPLIT - FROM OLYMPIA TO LITTLE FLORAMYE

EXHIBITION: THE AMERICAN DREAM IN SPLIT - FROM OLYMPIA TO LITTLE FLORAMYE

On the eve of St. Domnius, the patron saint of the city of Split, on May 5, 2022, at 7 pm, an exhibition entitled "The American Dream in Split - From Olympia to Little Floramye" will open in the Gallery of the Split City Museum.

A little over a hundred years ago, Allied ships sailed into the port of Split with the task of keeping the peace in this turbulent area. The stay of the US Navy, led by the cruiser Olympia and Admiral Philip Andrews, brought to the sleepy city on the edge of the collapsed Austro-Hungarian Empire the sounds and dance steps, revived social life, and popularized the unusual bat sport mistakenly called baisy-ball. At the exhibition, you will see previously unpublished photos of Olympia in Split, the original baseball bat that belonged to two American sailors, fans of the Chicago Cubs, but also beautiful evening dresses that Split women wore for special occasions.

The exhibition authors are Darka Perko Kerum and Mia Kragujević, curators at the Split City Museum, and it will be open until the end of September 2022.
