Location: Split Photo Club (Marmontova 5, 21000 Split)
Date: October 3rd - October 20th, 2023, exhibition opening at 7:00 PM
In this project, two authors from different generations, yet stylistically, visually, and aesthetically interestingly comparable, exceptionally successful artists who have left their distinctive mark on the art scene, are presented. They are connected by the technique through which they realize their ideas: black and white photography, as well as their shared fascination with the body, their own, fragile, accessible, and malleable.
Fanita Barčot-Nikolac is a member of HDLU Rijeka and HDLU Istria and primarily exhibits her work in thematic exhibitions and occasionally in international competitions, where she has achieved remarkable success. Milena Milenković, on the other hand, has paved her artistic path with awards, mostly in international photography salons under the patronage of FIAP. Both artists are preoccupied with questioning their own existence through the prism of meaning. They both assert that the continuous photographic inquiry - "Who am I?" - is never and can never be concluded.
Fanita Barčot-Nikolac was born in 1963 in Split. She has participated in over 40 group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad, winning numerous awards and recognitions. She is a member of HDLU Rijeka and HDLU Istria. Although she leans towards black and white photography, she equally expresses herself through color photography, experimenting with various photographic techniques. Her expression is personal and intimate. In a conceptual manner, she questions her own self, explores the relationship between light and darkness, creates digital collages, directs scenes, and worlds. Photography is her passion, a form of meditation that allows her to escape into her own world of creativity and freedom.
Milena Milenković was born in 1990 in Paraćin. She has exhibited in five solo exhibitions and more than 120 collective exhibitions in 20 countries, winning around 90 medals and awards. She earned the artistic title of KMF FSS - Candidate Master of Photography in 2020, granted by the Artistic Council of the Photo Association of Serbia, becoming the youngest woman to receive this title. In the same year, she ranked among the top 10 authors in Serbia. She achieved the international distinction of AFIAP in 2021. She began her photographic work in 2015 with portrait and creative photography, later capturing street scenes and everyday life. Soon, discovering an interest in the human body and emotion, she started working with nude photography. Through nudes, she explores emotional liberation that comes from shedding and renouncing imposed social norms. The series displayed in the exhibition were created in different time periods from 2015 to 2023.
The program is realized with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Split and is part of the program "Regular Annual Program of the Fotoklub Split Association," funded by the Kultura nova Foundation.
