The opening of the exhibition "Hommage to Genetics" by Nikolina Kuzmić will take place on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023, at 8:00 PM at the Studio-21- gallery.
(...)"In the cycle 'Hommage to Genetics,' themes are transformed from the universal biological level into the personal, and heritage and genetics are examined within one's own family. The author uses family photographs and correlates them with objects of personal and shared significance. This theme naturally focuses on the female line of heritage, not strictly entering the realm of feminist art but solely delving into the lineages of inheritance and life paths. Specifically, it is an installation and a combined technique consisting of three cabinets, three embroidered photographs, and one common bond. The cabinets are upholstered with white brocade and filled with various objects, with the central part featuring hand-embroidered small cloths whose thread is made from family photos printed on fabric. Various ready-made objects, collected items, and soft sculptures made from 'textile' photographs are arranged around the central part." (Ana Bratić, from the foreword)
