Izložba je postavljena povodom dvjesto godina postojanja i rada Arheološkog muzeja u Splitu, najstarije muzejske ustanove u Hrvatskoj i u jugoistočnoj Europi. 

Ova obljetnička izložba, najveća u povijesti Arheološkog muzeja, je prigoda da se i stručna i šira javnost upoznaju s najvrjednijim eksponatima zbirke Issa, koja je tek djelomično bila dostupna u muzejskim prostorima grada Visa.

Autori izložbe su odabrali preko 750 najreprezentativnijih arheoloških predmeta (natpisi, skulpture, vaze i druge keramičke posude, terakote, nakit, oružje, oruđe, novac…) pronađenih na području grada Visa koji svjedoče o najranijim tragovima života na otoku, od razdoblja pretpovijesti pa sve do ranog srednjeg vijeka. 

Među najznačajnijim eksponatima koji će biti prezentirani na izložbi nalaze se brončana glava božice Artemide te najstariji kameni grčki natpis u stihu pronađen u Hrvatskoj. Nakon dugogodišnjih, kompleksnih restauratorsko-konzervatorskih zahvata, po prvi put će biti izložene i monumentalne rimske carske skulpture iz Isse. 

Neprocjenjiva je važnost i doprinos antičke Isse kulturnoj i gospodarskoj povijesti današnje Hrvatske pa će, po prvi put na jednom mjestu, sva vrijednost i bogatstvo isejske ostavštine biti vidjljivo i dostupno svim hrvatskim građanima.

The exhibition marks two hundred years of existence and work of the Archaeological Museum in Split, the oldest museum institution in Croatia and Southeast Europe.

This anniversary exhibition, the largest in the history of the Archaeological Museum, is an opportunity for both professionals and the general public to get acquainted with the most valuable exhibits of the Issa collection, which was only partially available in the museum premises of Vis.

The authors of the exhibition have selected over 750 of the most representative archaeological objects (inscriptions, sculptures, vases and other ceramic vessels, terracotta, jewelry, weapons, tools, money, etc.) found in the town of Vis. Objects testify to the earliest traces of life on the island, from prehistory to the early Middle Ages.

Among the most significant exhibits presented at the exhibition are the bronze head of the goddess Artemis and the oldest Greek stone inscription in verse found in Croatia. After many years of complex restoration and conservation work, monumental Roman imperial sculptures from Issa will exhibit for the first time. The contribution of ancient Issa to the cultural and economic history of today's Croatia is invaluable, and, for the first time in one place, all the value and richness of the Issa legacy will be visible and accessible to all Croatian citizens.
