FOREWORD

What separates a technical drawing from an artistic drawing? What is more important in the process of artistic creation – inspiration or reflection, technical skill, or the idea behind the work? These are some of the great questions of art, unable to answer in one text or with one exhibition, but it is possible to remind of them and provoke a little.

Vilim Halbarth does exactly that with his installations, inspired by the not-at-all-glamorous but still impressive practice - the art of shipbuilding. Staying in the shipyard for years (5,500 days precisely, as one of the videos featured in this exhibit indicates), he studied the techniques and skills needed to process the raw material into something as magnificent as a ship.
