Vesna Podrug, piano - Split Circle
As part of an extensive series of solo concerts, the prominent Split pianist Vesna Podrug will contribute a rich piano recital that encompasses some of the peaks of the piano repertoire, pairing Schubert with Prokofiev and Brahms with Rachmaninoff. The stylistic versatility is a distinctive feature of this program:
Three Piano Pieces D 946 by Schubert, among the last pieces he wrote before his death (part of an unfinished set of four impromptus). They reflect the lyrically refined microcosm of Schubert's unique sound world, featuring unusual harmonies, beautiful vocal melodies, and episodes of pure melancholy. Brahms published them after Schubert's death.
Three Intermezzos for Piano, Op. 117 by Brahms. Written in his later years, these pieces are filled with nostalgia and introspection.
Sonata No. 2 in D minor by Sergei Prokofiev, an early work by the composer characterized by direct energy, rapid flow, and great power, already hinting at the dark depths Prokofiev would explore in his later compositions.
Selection of Preludes from Op. 23 and Op. 32 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, adding a series of virtuosic preludes from another giant of Russian pianism.
Vesna Podrug's performance will bring together these diverse pieces, showcasing the virtuosity and emotional depth of the piano repertoire.
