The Croatian National Theatre Split and the Mediterranean Film Festival Split begin their collaboration in the new theater season with the program "Kino u teatru" (Cinema in the Theater), which will take place once a month.

 

The program kicks off with the Split premiere of the award-winning Croatian film "Samo kad se smijem" ("Only When I Laugh"), on Wednesday, November 22, at 10:00 PM. The screening will be accompanied by the presence of the director Vanja Juranić, producer Ana Grbac, and actors Stipe Radoje and Filip Radoš.

 

This powerful drama had its premiere in the competition program of this year's Pula Film Festival, where it won the award for the best lead actress (Tihana Lazović) and the Cinema Network Award – the network of Croatian independent cinema exhibitors.

 

Tina (28) is seemingly in an idyllic marriage with her husband Frane (32). She is a homemaker taking care of their six-year-old daughter, while her husband provides for the family. Their relationship starts to change when Tina expresses a desire to finish the college she abandoned because of pregnancy. Despite the initial agreement and support, Frane begins to show disapproval, initially manifested in small sabotages. Over time, conflicts become more frequent, and arguments more violent.
