EXHIBITION: FORBIDDEN GARIFUL

EXHIBITION: FORBIDDEN GARIFUL

Location: House of Language and Culture Peristil powered by OTP (Poljana kraljice Jelene 1, 21000 Split)

Exhibition opening: Monday, September 13, 2021, starting at 8 p.m.

As part of the cycle Artist and Her Story, House of Language and Culture Peristil powered by OTP presents the artistic dedication and various expressions of the writer Anela Borčić. Although she is also involved in photography, her primary interest is the written word, and often in the foreground is the island of Vis, the preservation of the island's identity and cultural heritage.

The collection of short stories Forbidden Gariful is the fifth book by a Vis writer who, in her way, interprets seven stories and legends of the Vis archipelago. Legends will take you back to ancient Issa, mythological creatures, Christian beliefs, and also to a secret love and the forbidden Gariful from Jabuka (island).

Academic painter Natalia Borčić conveyed her experience of this part of the past with paintings. On this occasion, for the first time, these two artists, a mother, and a daughter collaborated on the delivery of this valuable work. Thus, for the first time, as part of the presentation of this book, it is possible to see an exhibition of accompanying illustrations inspired by her motifs and characters.
