Location: Museum of Fine Arts (Ulica kralja Tomislava 15, 21000 Split)
Time: April 10 - May 11, 2021
Faced with the impossibility of working due to the pandemic, in April 2020, the Museum of Fine Arts in Split initiated the online exhibition project titled A View from the Inside. The museum has invited contemporary artists to visually express the situation that we had only been starting to deal with. Duška Boban was the first to react with her photographic series titled Grain, that was created between 2017 and 2020. Her concept in which she took the analogous photographs from her personal archive depicting urban landscape and formed photographic diptychs by zooming in and enlarging the details of people hidden in them, highly resonated with the moment in which concepts of distance and isolation started to become parts of new weird reality. In her own words: Processes like these turn my focus retroactively to the questions of freedom and choices in the times of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also to the Anthropocene circumstances that had led to this and other announced catastrophes. Questions of the human domination over the environment have finally reached the mainstream channels, and human and economic losses, as well as restrictions of state apparatuses that quietly threaten with its on normalization, make the whole situation tangible and real.”
