EXHIBITION BY MATKO TREBOTIĆ: "SIGN REDUCTION"

EXHIBITION BY MATKO TREBOTIĆ: "SIGN REDUCTION"

Location: Gallery Studio-21 (Velebitska 66)

Date: January 22 - February 22.

The opening of Matko Trebotić's exhibition "Sign Reduction" will take place on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 7:00 PM in the Studio-21- gallery.

For the needs of Matko Trebotić's exhibition, the gallery space "Studio-21-" has been painted in a dark blue color (IKB).

Considering that Trebotić's recent paintings depict the "imperceptible whiteness of abstracted Mediterranean," we deemed it worthwhile to exhibit them on a "transcendental" background of precisely this color, suggesting the presence, in the words of Yves Klein himself, of "authentic pure ideas."

The second part of the exhibition will be held at the Old City Hall on February 1, 2024.

About the artist: Matko Trebotić, born in Milna on the island of Brač, a painter and architect, began his education in his hometown, attending three grades of elementary school in the Croatian language. After completing Classical Gymnasium in Split, he graduated in architecture in Belgrade, gaining valuable experience from renowned professors such as Branislav Kojić and Nikola Dobrović.

After initial success in his homeland, Trebotić went to Germany, collaborating with well-known architectural offices and standing out with an exhibition at the gallery of the Ruhr University. During the seventies, he studied at Folkwangschule Essen-Werden, interrupting his studies due to intensive exhibitions throughout Europe and the world, including New York, Paris, Istanbul, Berlin, and many other cities.

Trebotić is the author of numerous graphic-poetic maps, and his works are exhibited in prestigious museums and private collections. He has received awards at various salons and exhibitions, and in 2020, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Split for his exceptional contribution to Croatian art.

Returning to Split in 1983 with his wife Hannelore and son Fran, he lives and works in his own house with a studio in the Meje area. Trebotić is an honorary member of the Rotary Club Split and the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award of the City of Split in 2009 and the Award of the Rovinj Art Colony in 2019. He continues to contribute to the Croatian art scene, and his rich legacy extends to the international level.
