Empowering Women Workers in Culture (O-RUK): Mindfulness Pottery - monday, December 11, 6 pm - 9 pm

A new activity within the O-RUK program is a therapeutic pottery workshop, led by the Terrum association.

The therapeutic effect of the potter's wheel begins with the touch of the clay, causing sensations in the body. Through the phases of working on the wheel, transforming the material into a concrete structure, we establish and become aware of our own limits and needs, establish a sense of our own strength and control, and awaken the creator within, the creator of our own decisions and life.

The workshop is free and is intended for women, especially artists, students, and those working in the cultural and creative sector. The number of seats is limited; applications are accepted at info@culturehubcroatia.hr until the workshop is full.

Book Promotion "Cat-Human: A Collection of Interspecies Communications" / Ivana Filip - Tuesday, December 12, 8 pm - 9 pm

The book "Cat-Human: A Collection of Interspecies Communications" is an extraordinary story, told through text and photography, about one of the few neighborhoods in the broader center of Split not yet affected by tourism: the residential area of Spinut, where cats roam freely. Part neighborhood fable, part anthropological study from a cat's perspective, and part city travelogue as if written by cats, this small book is all that and much more in between.

The book "Cat-Human: A Collection of Interspecies Communications" is published as part of the Centering the Periphery 2023 program. The Artistic Organization Atelieri Žitnjak, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia.

During the book promotion, we will talk with the author Ivana Filip, who will provide insight into her artistic work, which is fundamentally based on researching the connections between humans and animals, especially cats, interspecies communication, and visual storytelling that combines their perspectives.

About the author: Ivana Filip is an artist, researcher, and activist. Her artistic work has evolved from visual arts in the media of photography, drawing, and others to a research approach in the multidisciplinary practice of performance, video, and other performative and visually expressive media. In recent years, Filip has focused on researching emotions, states, and concepts such as trust and empathy, senses, and bioethics in the context of relationships between humans and other living beings.

KineDok: Atonal Spark - Thursday, December 14, 7 pm - 8:15 pm

In partnership with KineDok, we present a selection from this year's film catalog in the Prostor gallery starting from September 2023 until April 2024.

In December, we present the Georgian documentary "Atonal Spark," the story of Tsotne Zedginidze, a boy compared to Mozart due to his piano skills. The film, besides his fascinating performances, provides insight into the backstage of his life, and the perspective of a child prodigy blends with that of an external observer in a story about a child destined for fame.

Duration: 67 min
You can watch the trailer for the film here.

KineDok cycle screenings are free and open to the public, but since the number of seats is limited, it is necessary to reserve them through a link that will be available on our calendar at the beginning of December.

Adopt Space: Maja Jelušić and Filip Bubalo / pop-up exhibition "Aquarium Sea" - friday, December 15, 6 pm - 8 pm

"Aquarium Sea" is a story about the relationship through the prism of a man and a woman, an artistic couple. Through contrasting expressions of poetry and photography, the exhibition explores the architecture of their relationship, but at the same time, it continues the exploration and artistic work on the theme of the south, the sea, and coasts, and the risks that these entities face due to climate change.

The exhibition is a review of selected works by Maja Jelušić and Filip Bubalo (texts and photographs) published in 2021 in the author's collection "Aquarium Sea," in collaboration with the City Library and Reading Room Hvar.
