THIRDS OF THE ADRIATIC BOATS

Technical drawings of Croatian wooden sailboats by Velimir Salomon

from the collection of Željko Skomeršić

Opening: Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at noon

The Thirds of the Adriatic Boats exhibition shows the working life of the shipbuilding engineer Velimir Salamon, born in Zagreb in 1945, through technical drawings and objects used in research, reconstruction, and replicas designs of traditional vessels of the Croatian Adriatic. The exhibition presents around sixty technical drawings of traditional Adriatic boats with sails and oars. Technical drawings give the audience an insight into the construction of traditional vessels that undoubtedly formed the backbone of coastal navigation on the eastern coast of the Adriatic. According to the author, he does not flatter himself to present some of his own new discoveries but rather returns us to the old, known to everyone, primordial knowledge that has been pushed into oblivion by carelessness. His intention was to remind and wipe the dust from old knowledge about vessels in the Adriatic.

The exhibition will remain open until April 17, 2023.
